Average review score:

A Medieval Book of Seasons
Beautifully illustrated look at medieval life, following the calendar year. Collins and Davis demonstrate how medieval lifestyles were closely tied to the agriculatural seasons, and the rhythms this created. The authors discuss food, lifestyles, agrarian and other pursuits, celebrations, travel, health, linguistics, leisure activities -- touching on a wide variety of subjects. A fascinating look at everyday life in Europe a millennium ago. Good "further reading" list and index.

Meditation from the Heart of Judaism: Today's Teachers Share Their Practices, Techniques and Faith
Published in Paperback by Jewish Lights Pub (February, 1999)
Author: Avram Davis
Average review score:

Finally, a real tool for Jewish Meditation!
Suited both for students of Kabbalah, or those who are merely getting their feet wet in Jewish mysticism, this book is great! Once I discovered that there was such a thing as Jewish Meditation, I delved avidly, and checked out many a library book on the subject. Most were hard to understand, speaking of worlds-beyond-worlds that left me confused. A few were simpler and more interesting, but none gave the practical advice of HOW-TO. This is the first book that truly helps one find their own beginning to a path of Jewish meditation. Where other books provide similar anecdotes of Jewish wisdom to ponder, this one actually compliments those with helpful tips to begin, or to deepen, your personal meditation practice. Very similar to works such as "God is a Verb," and "The Way of the Flame," this book is written in a pleasing, light style... not only for the academics!

The Mensch Chef: Or Why Delicious Jewish Food Isn't an Oxymoron

Fantastic Fool-Proof Recipes
Wow.. what a wonderful find! Even though the book focuses on Jewish cooking, anyone can enjoy the book ... it has many delicious comfort-food recipes, such as meatloaf, roast chicken, pierogis, blintzes, cabbage rolls, cheesecake, and my favorite cookies in the world - rugelach. I have tried the dishes (listed above) and they all came out absolutely perfect. My roommate even asked me how I turned into a fantastic chef overnight! The recipes are well-tested and you don't need to be Jewish to enjoy the book. Many thanks to the author for bringing comfort and warmth back into my kitchen.

Metro Cat takes us on a fun journey and provides opportunity to teach children about coping with and making use of life's unexpected turn of events. I just bought two more copies to give as gifts. Mexican Voices American Dreams: An Oral History of Mexican Immigration to the United States
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (November, 1991)
Author: Marilyn P. Davis
Average review score:

Great reference for understanding cultural differences
The largest group of immigrants to the United States are Mexicans. In this book, the author, by mean of interviews, shows the several differences between the culture of America and Mexico.

Questions like: Why do Mexicans come here? Where do they work? What do they miss? are answered.

The experience of crossing the border, the ideas of the women and family that stay in Mexico, the reality that they find here, are also covered, and also the changes that they experiment living here, and the ideas of the children of the immigrants (chicanos).

I think that everybody who needs to understand the mexican immigration from its roots should read this book.

Mice of the Nine Lives (Pennant)
Published in Paperback by Bob Jones Univ Pr (October, 1994)
Authors: Tim Davis and Morgan Howard
Average review score:

A delightful book for kids and adults too!
Join Charles and Oliver, two loyal, bewiskered, subjects of Her Majesty, The Queen of England as they and their feline friends work to outsmart Captain Crag and his mangy sea dogs. Tim Davis does an excellent job in this second "mouse" book in both the story and illustrations. He has created a charming story of cats and mice (natural enemies) who are fast friends, joined together in adventure and sailing as they try to rescue Captain Tabby's ship THE SEVEN SEAS from fierce pirate dogs. I introduced a five-year-old friend to these stories, and haven't had a rest since.:)
